Our founder, Caroline Scott Sanders, is a floriculture marketing consultant and peony pioneer.

Caroline’s love for gardening started from a young age. She has treasured memories of endless hours of gardening with her mother and grandmothers, tending to their lemon trees and watching them grow award-winning orchids.

After gaining university degrees in economics and marketing, she worked in various marketing roles for a large South African corporate that operated in the agricultural space.

When Caroline co-founded Winterberg Peonies nearly a decade ago, the South African market had barely discovered these incredible flowers. Our initial project was a small trial patch of peonies that grew into South Africa’s first large-scale sustainable peony operation. Starting off selling a few stems at the Orangezicht City Farmer’s Market in Cape Town, we eventually opened the first online peony flower and supplied both the retail and wholesale trade - achieving the top world prices on the overseas market.

Today, Caroline’s focus with Peony & More is on supplying high quality peony roots to gardeners and landscapers via an online peony root store, as well as providing advice on how to grow them. She’s passionate about the high quality of the peonies produced , and it’s her driving mission to share the beauty of these plants both locally and internationally.
